ENGAGEMENT 04
Make OKRs part of the execution system, not another reporting layer.
Turn strategic priorities into owned, measurable outcomes that improve decisions and execution.
THE ENGAGEMENT
What we work on together.
Use OKRs where they help, as one mechanism inside the wider Execution System—not as a standalone answer to every execution problem.
Best suited to
Leadership teams introducing or resetting OKRs, or organisations whose current OKRs are disconnected from planning, evidence and management decisions.
WHAT IT INCLUDES
THE PROBLEM
Why OKRs often disappoint
Well-written objectives can coexist with unchanged funding, overloaded teams and reviews that only collect updates. Key results may describe outputs instead of outcomes, lack baselines or have no owner able to act on the evidence. Better wording alone cannot repair those connections.
THE APPROACH
When OKRs help and when they do not
OKRs are useful when leaders need a small set of outcomes to guide choices and learning. We connect them to priorities, realistic capacity, clear ownership and the work intended to influence each result. Where decision rights or planning are the real constraint, those mechanisms need attention before an OKR rollout can be credible.
IN PRACTICE
Operate the review cycle
A review should ask what changed, what the evidence suggests about achieving the agreed target and which decision follows. It may lead to a changed initiative, capacity choice or target assumption. The aim is better management of outcomes, not a ritual of colour-coded updates or individual performance grading.
STARTING POINTS
The free Execution Health Check can provide an initial signal, while an adviser-led diagnosis tests the cause with evidence.
